Mother's Day Art!

For Mother's Day art we made gorgeous candle holders. We made the candle holders out of clay and once they were dried we painted them in our mother's favourite colours. After a busy week, Muinteoir Yvonne forgot to take photos of all the candle holders but here are two proud boys holding their very beautiful candle holders. We also made cards using our handprint for our mammys to cherish. Happy Mother's Day to all the wonderful Mummy's!

India!!!

It was Intercultral Festival week here in Merlin Woods P.S. We celebrated it by studying the country India. One of our pupils in our class is from India and his own family kindly came into our classroom and shared their culture with us. We heard lots of interesting facts and asked lots of intriguing questions. It was a wonderful experience for us all.

We celebrated St. Patrick's Day/Lá Glas on Thursday! We had lots of fun dressing up in green coloured clothes and discussing the story of St. Patrick. We created our own Leprechauns to
celebrate the luck of the Irish. We also celebrated Seachtain Na Gaeilge by creating St. Patrick's Day cards as Gaeilge! Happy St. Patrick's Day everyone!

Hatch 4 School!

We are so lucky here in Merlin Woods PS. We had some very special visitors to our school and classroom. Hatch 4 School arrived and left 6 eggs for our school to hatch. It was the most wonderful and amazing thing. We quietly kept an eye on the eggs as they were left in the incubator. On Ash Wednesday, there was great excitement whenone egg had hatched. The most beautiful yellow chick had arrived. Five others followed shortly afterwards. When they were a little bit bigger, we were allowed to bring them to our classroom and hold them. Farmer Gerard arrived a few days later to collect the chicks. He brought in a Rooster and a Hen for us to see and to touch. We were sad to see the chicks go but we know they will have a wonderful life with Farmer Gerard on the farm.

Science- Magnets!

We learned about magnets in science. We learnt that magnets have a north and south pole and that magnets can repel and attract. We searched our classroom for items that were magnetic and items that were not magnetic.

World Book Day!

We celebrated World Book Day here in Múinteoir Yvonne's First Class. We dressed up as our favourite character from our favourite book and discussed our character and our favourite book with our friends. Some of us even decided to become authors and write and create our own book for World Book Day. We had lots of fun celebrating World Book Day!
